Well this year is going so quickly, it's not much of a summer but I did manage a lovely day out with the puffins last month. I did get soaked even though the weatherman said it was going to be a dry day - ah well, it was a lovely day out none the less. Very early in the morning, these four goldfinches were perched on top of the feeder pole waiting for someone to put out their breakfast! It seems to be a family with Mom on the right, then a juvenile, then Dad, and then another young one on the left. The low sun rays from the early day light illuminated the group while keeping the background trees in darkness.

These birds are painted homing pigeons, which are painted different colours by the owners so that they can identify them in flight. This is a local tradition in Spain and the owners assure me that the paint does the birds no harm!

This particular photograph was a bit of a fluke really as my wife and I were on the local mountainside (more of a large hill really!) when the birds flew overhead. They looked so pretty in flight. I think they look beautiful with the sea in the background.

This cute little Pigeon looks as though it is having a sleep on the grass. In actual fact this bird is pecking around for seeds that fell off the bird table. It closed its eyes as it lowered its head and luckily I had a camera handy to catch the moment.
