This photo was taken at the main pond of Sapsucker Woods, home of Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York. On this day in autumn, the main pond featured Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks and brilliant fall foliage in colors of gold, red, yellow, orange and green. The luminous air created an ethereal quality. The water reflections further enhanced the magical feeling of the day.

Cayuga Lake is the longest of central New York's glacial Finger Lakes. The city of Ithaca's Stewart Park is located at the southern end. Every winter this end of the lake freezes and becomes the stomping ground for Canada geese, gulls and mallard ducks. This poster features the expanded icy shore with ducks, gulls and geese, the lovely blue green water, and the colorful houses along the shoreline at the foot of the eastern hills along the lake.

The dabchick or Little Grebe - latin name: Tachybaptus ruficollis - is a small and pretty wetland bird that is fouond in most of Eurasia and Africa. It mainly eats fish and other aquatic animals, caught by diving in stints of up to 50 seconds underwater. It often associates with ducks and it may follow Hippopotamuses (Hippopotamus amphbius), catching the aquatic life it disturbs. Like other grebes it sometimes eats its own feathers as they act as a protective wrapping for fish bones, protecting the bird from harm when it regurgitates pellets. This original photograph of an immature Dabchick floating on a lake was taken in a bird sanctuary in South Africa and is in color. The pale bill with the vertical black band near the base of the lower jaw and the pale tan and brown feathers are clearly visible against the grey blue water of the lake. If you're looking for the ideal card to send a boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse that you've broken up with and miss terribly, then this fully customizable card is ideal.

An adorable little Merganser Duck flees for his life with his freshly caught fish as a determined Gull chases him for his lunch. The Merganser Duck was so thrilled over his fishing skills and the Gull was equally thrilled that he didn't have to fish at all. He just has to take the fish away from the Merganser and continue on his merry way.

The mallard is a large and heavy looking duck. It has a long body and a long and broad bill. The male has a dark green head, a yellow bill, is mainly purple-brown on the breast and grey on the body. The female is mainly brown with an orange bill. It breeds in all parts of the UK in summer and winter, wherever there are suitable wetland habitats, although it is scarcer in upland areas. Mallards in the UK may be resident breeders or migrants - many of the birds that breed in Iceland and northern Europe spend the winter here.
