Snowy Egrets are one of two varieties of Egrets found here year round. They feed in the water, but can be found in many places. I once saw one next to a freeway off ramp.

COMMON WILD DUCK

LORDS OF BIRDLAND

Duck is the common name for a number of species in the Anatidae family of birds. The ducks are divided between several subfamilies listed in full in the Anatidae article. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, mostly smaller than their relatives the swans and geese, and may be found in both fresh water and sea water. Ducks are sometimes confused with several types of unrelated water birds with similar forms, such as loons or divers, grebes, gallinules, and coots.------------The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos[1]), probably the best-known and most recognizable of all ducks, is a dabbling duck which breeds throughout the temperate and sub-tropical areas of North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand (where it is currently the most common duck species), and Australia. It is strongly migratory in the northern parts of its breeding range, and winters farther south. For example, in North America it winters south to Mexico, but also regularly strays into Central America and the Caribbean between September and May. The Mallard and the Muscovy Duck are believed be the ancestors of all domestic ducks. The Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies to the mallard.

This is a pair of Gilded Flickers, a small woodpecker found in British Columbia Canada. They were at the top of a tall pole doing some type of mating ritual dance, bobbing their heads and swaying back and forth for several minutes before flying away.

This is from my vintage image collection and is an elegant woodpecker busily working on the side of a tree. It is an old, vintage illustration. The woodpecker is blue, red and white and looks majestic on the side of a tree somewhere in the forest.
