Blue Jays are year round inhabitants of upstate New York. They are beautiful and comical clowns but can also be pests, keeping the bird seed from the smaller birds. Here two colorful Blue Jays are scratching in the snow for something to eat. Blue shadows form a lovely pattern in the against the white.

This colorful poster features a blue jay who has landed on a porch deck in upstate New York surrounded by flowers. The blue, gray, white and black coloration of the bird is set off by a riot of color. There is a decorative teapot with orange and yellow nasturtiums and a purple petunia. Green leaves complete this kaleidoscope of colors.

Pine Siskins sometimes stay here in upstate New York during the winter. They tend to hang out with the goldfinches. I captured this little fellow seemingly dancing for joy!

White Crowned Song Sparrows are the most abundant and widespread wild bird in backyards and small shrubbed areas across North America. They are also one of the easiest birds to identify. The white-crowned sparrow sings with a high whistle and buzz call that may be heard at any time of day and even into the night, particularly when males are singing to claim territory.
