I photographed this wild buzzard as it was about to drop onto it's dinner over the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, UK. A lovely sunny day and you can make out the shadow of it's feet on it's tail. Hope you enjoy it.
A full color poster of a beautiful female Harris Hawk that I've been flying for 5 years, it's name is Yajana, ready to hunt, looking for a prey in a summer morning. We were in central Mexico and both were anxious to start the day with good preys; me just as a little helper of this magnificient and powerful brid of prey.
This is a wild sparrowhawk. They use ambush as their method of hunting. It's a very fast, agile and nimble bird and is quite difficult to spot. I couldn't believe my luck when I came across this one, and I'm happy to say that he didn't finish his meal and the unfortunate bird did get away and survive.
The sparrowhawk is a secretive and solitary hunter. It favours woodland where it hunts along the woodland edges and clearings. It is highly manoeverable. It usually takes small birds such as chaffinch, yellowhammer and great tit. This is a male and has just caught a moorhen. Quarry is eaten on the ground or on a stump, the hawk standing with both feet on its victim, drooping wings to form a tent and spreading its tail as if to give support. As seen here. I'm happy to say it survived.
This Horned Owl was injured along a roadside and nursed back to health at a large bird rescue. Unable to be reintroduced into the wild, it is now captive and used for educational presentations by the local Zoo. Here it feeds on a young baby chick for lunch!
