Although the peafowl - latin name: Pavo cristatus - is commonly called a peacock, that name properly applies only to males; females are called peahens. Peafowl originated in Asia but have been domesticated in many parts of the world. Their resplendent tail feathers are iridescent green and gold and are ornamented with eyelike markings of a rich color, known as peacock blue. Peafowl can be quite sociable and the male peacock in the spring displays his gorgeous tail feathers and also utters an awakening call, which is loud, yet pleasant. Peacock feathers are popularly used in unique crafts and decoration. This particular one was found wandering around a game farm in East London, South Africa and makes the perfect cover image for this binder in which you can file your treasured family recipes.
